Soy candles
A candle that opens up as it burns
Hand-poured candles by the Latvian workshop Munio Candela, made from soy and rapeseed wax and decorated with flowers and herbs gathered in Nordic meadows and forests. The candle burns into a tunnel, so the flame gradually lights up the dried flowers inside and turns it into a small lantern.
The large candles burn for up to 50 hours; the small ones make an ideal little gift. Delivered in Brno with a bouquet or on their own.

How to choose a soy candle
Large or small?
The large 515 ml candle (⌀ 8 × 10 cm) burns for up to 50 hours and stands on its own as a gift. The small 220 ml version has the same diameter but half the height and burns for 10 to 15 hours — perfect as a small addition to a bouquet, or for trying a fragrance before committing to the large one. The candle in a glass votive (100 ml) is the smallest, and once it has burnt down the glass can be reused as a tealight holder.
Which fragrance for which room
- Living room takes bolder woody and forest scents — juniper with limonium, or forest berries.
- Bedroom calls for something calmer: heather, wild flowers, rose.
- Advent and Christmas — cloves and orange, the classic pairing that smells of mulled wine and gingerbread.
- A gift you're unsure about — choose wild flowers or rose. They are the most universal and won't overwhelm anyone.
Why soy wax rather than paraffin
Paraffin is a by-product of crude oil refining. Soy and rapeseed wax are plant-based, renewable and biodegradable. They burn cleanly without sooting, so you won't get black marks on the wall above the candle. They also burn considerably more slowly, which is why a soy candle of the same volume lasts longer than a paraffin one. Soy wax washes off with soap and water — something you'll appreciate the first time it spills.
Don't throw away the wax left over from the walls: put it in a cotton bag in your wardrobe to scent your linen, or break it into pieces for a wax warmer.
How to burn the candle properly
- Before the first burn, trim the wick to 1 cm and let the candle burn until most of the surface has melted.
- Trim the wick to 1 cm before every subsequent burn — a longer wick will soot.
- Never burn the candle for more than 3–4 hours at a time, and never unattended.
- Place it on a heat-resistant surface away from draughts and out of reach of children and pets.
- A wax wall about a centimetre thick remains around the flame to protect the dried flowers from the fire. It may crack and open like a blossom as the candle burns — that is how it is meant to be.
- Soy wax may crack slightly when temperatures fluctuate. This affects neither the burn nor the fragrance.
